Doubtful Jack On Target For Big Things In The Spring

July 13th, 2010

With the countdown to Australia’s greatest annual period of thoroughbred horse racing underway, Doubtful Jack is being tipped as the contender to set the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival alight as he dominated in the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Doubtful Jack is being tipped as the contender to set the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival alight as he dominated in the Listed Winter Championship Final.

Trained by Peter Moody, Doubtful Jack is now the eighth stakes starter from Not A Single Doubt, and set himself up as a potential star after defeating Pinnacles by an emphatic six-and-a-half lengths.

It was a superb run by the three-year-old ridden by Luke Nolen, and saw the gelding sit slightly off the pace for most of the event before storming through the field in the last 50 metres and running on to his third straight win.

Moody is delighted with Doubtful Jack’s recent progress, and while he expected a win, was stunned by the ease in which the gelding delivered, so has decided to reassess the gelding’s spring campaign in Melbourne – now looking for bigger and better things.

The $350,000 Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) is a possibility and taking place on the 9th of October would certainly pit Doubtful Jack against some classy runners to discover if he is a star waiting to shine.

Doubtful Jack has now won six of his 12 career starts, earning $362,165 – a lucrative horse considering he cost just $100,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Premier Yearling Sale, and now Moody, along with owner Mr A.J. Meads, is hoping to increase those earnings in Melbourne.
