2010 Manikato Stakes Final Field and Preview

September 23rd, 2010

With just one day to go before the 2010 Manikato Stakes (1200m), the final field has been named. Nine top weight-for-age runners are set to contest the Group 1 event for a shot at the $500,000 in prize money.

Other top contenders to watchout for in this Group 1 event include the Grahame Begg-trained All Silent and the Michael, Wayne, and John Hawkes-trained Love Conquers All. Both are listed at $7.50 odds at Sportsbet.

Five-year-old gelding Hay List is listed as the heavy favourite to win this year’s Manikato Stakes. The John McNair-trained runner is fresh off of three fantastic performances, which includes a first place finish in the Healy Stakes (1200m) and the more recent McEwen Stakes (1000m). A very lucky barrier draw has added to the chances of this quality galloper as Hay List will be starting from the coveted barrier number one.

While plenty of racing enthusiasts are predicting an easy win for the McNair horse, Peter G Moody’s Reward For Effort ($10.00) is expected to put up a strong effort as well. The four-year-old bay horse had two first place finishes in the Monash Stakes (1100m) and the Concorde Stakes (1100m). Though, he was outrun by the favoured Hay List in the recent McEwen Stakes, which produced a third place finish for Reward For Effort.
