The 2010 Thousand Guineas ran today, with a very surprising set of first finishers and the favourites far back. Punters will now look forward to Caulfield Cup Day on Saturday for the 6 Group races to be held.
First to finish was Yosei ($11), who had been hailed as a real chance earlier in the year before a string of subpar performances warned punters off her. A shocking burst of speed in the last 150 metres saw her move well ahead of the leaders, however, and she crossed the finish line over a length and a half in front.
It was a brutal defeat for Heartsareforlove ($126), as she had worked hard to maintain the lead for much of the Thousand Guineas run. She finished comfortably ahead of third place Brazilian Pulse ($4.80), who was the only placegetter to have ever really been given a chance by tipsters to win this run.
Amber Waltz finished further behind in fourth place, with Sistine Angel hot on her heels in fifth. Drawing ire from many a punter was favourite More Strawberries in sixth place, who never really had the chance to battle for the lead.
