High Hopes For Foxwedge’s Spring Racing Carnival Campaign

August 10th, 2011

Last season’s two-year-old racing sensation Foxwedge will begin his Spring Racing Carnival when he runs in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday August 13, 2011.

New Zealander apprentice jockey James McDonald was impressed with what he saw when he rode the Fastnet Rock colt in trackwork yesterday.

“He worked awesome,” McDonald said.

“I’m looking forward to watching him go around on Saturday. He’s a lovely horse and it was certainly nice to start the morning riding a nice horse like him.”

McDonald is confident that Foxwedge is in with a winning chance in the 2011 San Domenico Stakes.

“I’d say he’ll be right in it going by the way he worked,” he said.

Trainer John O’Shea was also happy with Foxwedge’s impressive gallop yesterday.

“He needed to have a good hitout because he’s a pretty gross colt and he had that this morning,” O’Shea said.

“We won’t die wondering on Saturday. He’s probably only going to have four runs this preparation and we’ll make sure that in all of them he’s right up to the mark.”

The three-year-old has not had a race since pulling up sore when finishing in seventh place in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper in April.

Since returning to work Foxwedge has won both his barrier trials in Sydney.

Foxwedge has won two of his four race starts and has accrued more than $180,000 in prize money during his short horse racing career.
