Rekindled Interest’s Spring Campaign Rests On 2011 Memsie Stakes

August 16th, 2011

Trainer Jim Conlan will wait until after next Saturday’s Group 2 Memsie Stakes on August 27, 2011, to decide on a spring carnival racing program for Rekindled Interest.

The Redoute’s Choice four-year-old finished second last start in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap behind Temple Of Boom.

Rekindled Interest is said to have pulled up well from the race.

“He went as good as I expected,” Conlon said.

“I did think he was going well and he’s obviously a good horse but the most significant thing for me is he’s come through the race just terrifically.”

Just how well Rekindled Interest performs in next week’s Memsie Stakes 2011 will determine his future this spring.

“He’ll now run in the Memsie and that will determine his immediate future,” Conlan said.

“If he doesn’t perform to expectations we’ll look at a handicap preparation with him but if he shows he’s competitive at weight-for-age he’ll go down that path.”

Should Rekindled Interest prove he is able to take the weight-for-age path he will be aimed towards the 2011 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 22, 2011.

However, if he does not perform at weight-for-age level in the Memsie Stakes 2011, Rekindled Interest will be sent to either the Toorak Handicap 2011 or the Caulfield Cup 2011.

Rekindled Interest is currently paying odds of $26 at in both the Caulfield Cup 2011 and the Melbourne Cup 2011 horse racing betting markets.
