2012 Epsom Handicap Barriers Shape Betting Odds

October 4th, 2012

The Epsom Handicap is due to take place at Royal Randwick racecourse this Saturday October 6, 2012.

Shoot Out (barrier 10) and Fat Al (barrier 6) have dominated the betting for the race, with Fat Al currently the $4.80 favourite at bookmaker.com.au.

Shoot Out remains the $5.50 second favourite to take out the $500,000 race this weekend.

Fat Al’s jockey, Tommy Berry, feels his horse can turn around his form after his unexpected third placing in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes last start.

“It was only second-up, third-up will suit him, the Randwick mile will suit him well, he is a tough horse and it is a tough horse’s race,” Berry said.

“We have got a bit of pace either side, I don’t think you have to lead on him, he just have to be in his comfort zone.”

Jockey Nash Rawiller is also confident that his mount Rangirangdoo can take out the 2012 Epsom Handicap.

Despite drawing barrier 14, Rawiller is unconcerned by the wide gate.

“It might be a perfect barrier the way Randwick has been racing,” Rawiller said.

“I’m not too concerned, my horse is a good beginner and there is a long run down the back, Wild And Proud (barrier 15) will probably go forward and give him cover, from there we will just work out where we need to be.”

Rangirangdoo finished second to Shoot Out in the Group 1 George Main Stakes last start.

The Pentire gelding has won 10 of his 30 race starts and has earned more than $2.2 million in prize money.
