Caulfield Racecourse

Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse is one of the most widely recognised Australian horse racing tracks. Located eight kilometres from the city centre and nicknamed ‘The Heath’, Caulfield Racecourse is host to the prestigious Melbourne Spring and Autumn Racing Carnivals, and most notably the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival.

Owned by the Melbourne Racing Club, the most anticipated event to take place at the track is the Caulfield Cup in spring, worth an impressive $3 million. Other worthy races linked with Caulfield are the Underwood Stakes, the Caulfield Guineas and the Thousand Guineas.

Tthe Caulfield Racecourse is a triangular track boasting three straights and has a circumference of 2,080 metres. Recent reconstruction has seen the track widened by 30 metres. With long turns and a rise around the back of the track, horses which get to the front early on suit Caulfield better – unless they are strong finishers.

Superb facilities such as the Rupert Clarke stand give spectators unobstructed views over the course thanks to the floor to ceiling glass walls, and Caulfield can accommodate 50,000 racing enthusiasts at the track whatever the weather. The course also has many restaurants, bars and VIP areas, which cater to families or formal parties for a perfect day out at the races.
