Flemington Racecourse

Widely regarded by many horse racing enthusiasts as one of the most beautiful racetracks in the world, the Flemington Racecourse provides the perfect backdrop for Australia’s most famous race – the Melbourne Cup. As the high point of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the most popular period of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the Melbourne Cup brings the best sprinters and stayers from Australia and the world to perform at Flemington.

Owned by the Victorian Racing Club, Flemington is known for its pear shaped course which culminates with the “Straight Six” –  the 1,200 metre straight. Positioned on the Maribyrnong River with low alluvial flats, the mounting enclosure becomes covered in blooming roses during the busiest time of year, producing a stunning outlook for up to 120,000 spectators in three grandstands. While the Spring Racing Carnival is its season highlight, the course also holds the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival earlier on in the year, and it is a popular attraction at any time.

In 2007, the Flemington Racecourse was added to the Australian National Heritage List and it is a real attraction in its own right, with many restaurants, bars and excellent facilities on offer to guests. There is so much available to those who go along and watch a race at Flemington Racecourse.
