Spring carnival racing in Australia spans the two major metropolitan cities in the country which fight over the title of the home of horseracing – Sydney and Melbourne, with the two hosting 50 days of world class racing – some of which considered the most prestigious races in Australia.
The Melbourne Spring racing carnival is held annually throughout October and November and is regarded as the highlight thoroughbred horse racing event on the Australian calendar.
Made up by a number of internationally regarded Group 1 races’, including the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate – the carnival comes to a halt when the richest race in Australia, the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) worth $6 million takes to the track.
The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is often overlooked with all the feature races in Melbourne; however the carnival spans the months of August through to December, and is headlined by the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).
